Community Guidelines
The Brad Frost Web Slack community is a place for creative, curious, kind, and passionate people to connect, support, learn, grow, help, hang out, and have fun together. Our community guidelines are very simple and very important. They are:
-
Don't be an asshole!
-
Help each other!
-
Have fun!
Don't be an asshole!
This one is obvious: don't be an asshole. This is a place for community, learning, growth, and fun, so everyone's physical and psychological safety is absolutely paramount. Asshole behavior is antithetical to this community's mission, so it won't be tolerated. We're all human beings, so treat each other with kindness and respect.
Any asshole behavior — harassment, discrimination, hate speech, threats, inappropriate comments/jokes/images, anything illegal, anything against Slack's terms, or any other behavior that we consider harmful to the community — will be handled swiftly, fairly, and transparently.
The consequences for asshole behavior really depends on the nature of the asshole behavior; we're big on constructive correction, forgiveness, grace, and redemption, but won't hesitate to suspend and/or expel someone for particularly egregious asshole behavior.
We reserve the right to remove posts, mute/remove members, lock channels, and take any other necessary action to protect the health and safety of the community.
Help each other!
This is a place where people help each other. This is a place to ask questions. This is a place to help people who are asking questions. This is a place to have respectful, nuanced conversations about complex topics.
No other person on the planet has lived the life you've lived. Your perspective is wholly unique, and you have valuable things to offer the world! You are a great teacher, even if you don't consider yourself one. So share what you know. Share what you don't know. Share what you've learned. Share what you'd like to learn. Share what's worked for you. Share what's not worked for you. MEGA BONUS POINTS if you share a link to something you've written on your own website. There's SO MUCH to learn from each other.
While we want people to share, please don't share anything that can be considered confidential company information (we don't want you to get in trouble!), and private conversations/media without others' consent. Respect people, their privacy, and their agency; again, don't be an asshole.
We also encourage you to share your feelings, vulnerability, and humanity. That said, if you're experiencing a mental health crisis, please seek emergency help rather than posting to this community.
Brad Frost Web (consisting of Brad and Ian) are committed to helping people out, especially people who have questions about our courses. We do our best to respond to peoples' questions in a timely manner, and appreciate patience and understanding as we juggle our different obligations. Also, keep in mind that you're participating here voluntarily, and Brad Frost Web isn't liable for damages resulting from following advice posted by anyone in this community.
Have fun!
Holy crap we have fun jobs! We get to MAKE THINGS! We get to HELP PEOPLE! We get to MAKE THINGS THAT HELP PEOPLE! Nothing breaks my heart more than seeing the creativity, fun, and humanity sucked out of creative professions.
We're enthusiasm enthusiasts that love hearing about what other people are passionate and excited about. Enthusiasm and positivity is infectious, so please share it freely! We love music, laughter, art, nature, community, family, design, learning, solving problems, technology, pets, animals, plants, fungi, the cosmos, and all of the other good things life has to offer. This place is a place that celebrates and promotes Good Things.
So yeah! Don't be an asshole, help each other, and have fun. Pretty simple.
Thanks for being a part of this community. If you have any questions, comments, ideas, concerns, or need to report harm, please do not hesitate to reach out to me at brad@bradfrost.com.
